Delamination is one of the most common defects in carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP)components, such as those used in aircraft and for wind turbine blades. To detect delaminations, different NDT methods such as ultrasonic (LTT), edby current (EC) scanning, pulsed edby current (PEC) the rmographhy and flash the rmograp by are conducted for comparison. Using these NDT systems, man-made delamination swith varied diameters and depths are investigated through surface heating patterns or the reflection ofultrasound. A PEC thermograph by system was built at the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics,China, tested in line with a developed UT/EC scanning, flash thermograph by system. Through this comparison,PEC and flash thermograph by show relatively good indications of the shape and depth of delaminations. With regards to other typical defects in composite materials。such as impact damages and cracks, PEC the rmography is proven as a good approach for these applications, especially for fibre orientation evaluationas an integrative NDE method.
