Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a heterogenous group of hematologic malignancies characterized by clonal expansion of bone marrow myeloid precursor cells with impaired differentiation.The identification of recurrent genetic alterations, including gene mutations and epigenetic dysregulation has led to new insights into the pathogenesis of these disorders.
