Since Korea introduced a new law school system in March 2009,law school students are licensed to practice law after 3-year law school education and a 6-month internship following the Lawyer Exam. However, under previous Judicial Exam system, before being qualified as a lawyer, students have to finish a 2-year practice-oriented training in Judicial Research and Training Institute subsequent to passing the Judicial Exam. The Judicial Exam is expected to be abolished in 2017,and before then it will coexist with the law school system.Under the law school system,in order to provide practice skills training, law schools have opened lectures such as civil trial practice, criminal trial practice, prosecutor practice and legal writing given by law school professors, current judges and prosecutors, and lawyers as affiliate professors.25 law schools in Korea have their own legal clinic programs, where student-led job training including legal counseling and legal assistance are offered under professors guidance.Clinical Legal Education Center (CLEC) of Korea University also plans to magnify its role of providing Koreas-actual-conditions-based career guidance for law school students from 2013,besides its common functions as a legal clinic.
