The HIV epidemic among MSM in China is worsening.HIV prevalence has beenincreasing at a very high speed in many Chinese cities over the last decade.HIV incidence, which measures newly diagnosed cases among MSM in China, was also exceptionally high.Mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), are more prevalent among HIV positive MSM than other populations and have serious individual and public health consequences. Our studies found high prevalence of depression (48.4-55.8%), anxiety (53.3%), and suicidal ideation (31-48%) among HIV positive MSM;such prevalence may be aggregated by stigma and prevalent use of substances such as inhaled nitrites (RUSH) among them.Mental health problems would alsodiminish the efficacy of the new national antiretroviral therapy (ART) policy by affecting usage and adherence.
