The Salvia species in the Lamiaceae family are well known for their richness in bioactive diterpenoid natural produces.Recent shot-gun sequencing analysis of danshen (S.miltiorrhiza Bunge),a traditional Chinese medicinal herb that produces the main bioactive components of diterpenoid quinone tanshinones,revealed five copalyl diphosphate synthase (CPS) and two ent-kaurene synthase-like (KSL) sequences.
