Sepsis is a kind of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) which is the result of severe infection.Hydrogen (H2) has a magical effect in the treatment of sepsis.This study aims at illuminating the mechanism of the protective effect of H2 toward severe septic mice, that is,whether the protective function of H2 in the mice with septic intestinal injury is through the activation of heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) and its upstream regulator nuclear factor-erythroid 2 p45-related factor 2 (Nrf2).
