由于盲目地追求眼前的经济利益而不合理开发红树林湿地的活动已导致我国红树林面积锐减，沿海红树林湿地随地区发展的不平衡而破坏方式和程度也不同，但均导致红树林生态系统功能严重衰退，红树林底栖动物的资源量与多样性急剧下降。
随着深圳市发展步伐的不断加快，福田红树林自然保护区受到水体污染、大气污染、人为干扰等各方面干扰，导致该保护区的生态系统出现不同程度的退化。本文通过赴香港考察与学习，对相邻的香港米埔红树林保护区30多年来，在湿地管理经验的累积、生境的修复、科学研究、教育宣传等进行解析；分析香港米埔红树林湿地生态系统日趋稳定、精细的科学管理及迁徙水鸟保护与入侵物种治理等经验；为深圳福田红树林湿地的保护提供学习和借鉴，
