In the hyper-competitive Cleantech space, companies with strong intellectual property awareness are more likely to survive and thrive.Understanding the nuances of the current legal frameworks as they relate to the intellectual property issues and opportunities confronting companies in the Cleantech space is critical.Companies engaged in the Cleantech space can and should develop Intellectual Property awareness.Once obtained, integrating such an awareness can be done and implemented in a cost-effective manner, so that intellectual property risks can be avoided, and opportunities to develop intellectual property value can be exploited.Additionally, companies focused on Cleantech are increasingly involved in "global" intellectual property issues, underscoring the need for building a comprehensive awareness of such issues, and utilizing that awareness as a cornerstone of Cleantech business strategy.This presentation will highlight the various intellectual property issues companies engaged in the Cleantech space are likely to face, primarily with respect to protecting and marketing innovative products and services in the global marketplace.From expedited global patent strategies for "green" technologies to "greenwashing", or false advertising related to environmental benefits for a good or service, the opportunities and challenges facing todays Cleantech-focused companies are varying and require immediate attention.Considerations in implementing a business strategy that leverages the intellectual property opportunities while lowering the ever-present risks will be discussed, together with a brief overview of the main categories of intellectual property and the impact of those frameworks on companies operating in the Cleantech space today.
