Reusing of recycled aggregates in cement and concrete products is an effective option to manage these wastes. However, due to the complex nature and poorer quality, recycled aggregates are still restricted only to non-structural applications.Carbonation reactions are known to be ableto densify the matrix of old concrete and also cause rapid hardening of fresh cementitious materials. This paper provides an overview of the recent studies on CO2 curing of recycled aggregate conducted at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The influence of properties of recycled concrete aggregate on the CO2 curing process as well as the impact of the CO2-cured aggregate on the properties of new concrete are demonstrated. The potential applications of this technique for the production of eco-blocks and CO2 sequestration are also outlined.
