The control of neuron adhesion and guiding of neurite outgrowth on solid surfaces is of interest for the investigation of fundamental aspects of neurobiology such as neuritogenesis and neural development.Cellular bioelectronic research on e.g.neuronal implants and cell base biosensors often relies on the alignment of neurons with solid state devices to achieve precise interfacing with neurons.Furthermore, the particular function of a neuron depends on their involvement into a cellular network, more than for many other cell types. Therefore, the development of procedures that facilitate guiding of neurons into specific networks predefined by adhesion cues is an important challenge.A common strategy to locally control the adhesion and outgrowth of neurites on solid surfaces is to modify the chemical composition, and thereby the binding properties,of these surfaces.
