China is one of the oldest and largest countries on the application of natural herbal in the world and have more available medicinal resources.Numerous clinical experiencefrom the combined treatmentof traditional medicine with modem medicine, constituted a unique Chinese Medicine System.Traditional Chinese medicine is most likely to get the original innovation breakthrough in the field of natural sciences in China.The 2011 Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award has been awarded to Professor TU Youyou of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, for her discovery of artemisinin, a drug important for the treatment of malaria.Artemisinin, a major discovery in the history of the development of medicine, has saved millions of lives across the globe, especially in the developing world.The products derived from traditional Chinese medicine and natural products, such as paclitaxel, arsenic trioxide, Ginkgo biloba preparations, is now listed in Britain, the United States, France, Italy, Germany, Japan and other major countries.However, there are still many problems, especially the lack of breakthroughs on the aspects of research ideas, methods and techniques, which is difficult to provide advantageous technical support for the research and development of innovative drugs and compound traditional Chinese medicine.Recently, based on the principles of system biology, we explore the effective substance and carry out the study of mechanisms on drug action in the complicated system of Chinese medicine by making full use of bioinformatics and network of pharmacology technology.Notably, we made some progress in the study of the compound Chinese medicine.Through the acquisition of computer information, biological module mining, the use of gene chips, protein chip technology and high-throughput gene expression detection technology and other modern molecular biology techniques, we systematically analyze the chemical composition of coronary Danshen Pill and other famous complex prescriptions, construct the multi-component-gene-disease network diagram, and further study the synergy mechanism of multi-target group, aiming to find effective substances and explore the mechanism of drug action and develop new drugs.Research has shown that the main active ingredients of coronary salvia dropping pills are saponins, phenolic acids, flavonoids, tanshinone and volatile oil.Further mechanism studies on the cynaroside, kaempferol, salvianolic acid B and notoginsenoside R1 have been investigated.Our results suggest that cynaroside prevents H2 O2-induced apoptosis in H9c2 cell by reducingthe extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathways.Kaempferol protects against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in vivo and in vitro via the inhibition of the p53-mediated, mitochondria-dependent intrinsic apoptotic signaling, and via involvement in the ERK-dependent MAPK pathway.Cardioprotective effect of Salvianolic acid B against arsenic trioxide-induced injury in cardiac H9c2 cells is via the PI3K/Akt signal pathway.Notoginsenoside R1 could prevent brain ischemia-reperfusion injury and the protective effects of NGR1 were partly due to activating the HO-1 signaling pathways.
