There have been many kinds of blowers in the history of Japan’s metallurgy, such as leather bags, boxes, plinths, scales and water tankers. Each of these blowers has their own characteristics that have an important influence on the evolution of ancient Japanese metallurgy. Based on the relevant historical documents, this paper intends to conduct a preliminary investigation of the development of the ancient Japanese metallurgical blower, point out its material and structural features, and compare with the ancient Chinese metallurgical blower. Through preliminary investigation and analysis, this paper argues that the development of Japanese skins and water tangerines may be influenced by the ancient Chinese bladder and water row, respectively. The origin of the squill is earlier than that of China, and its origin needs to be further studied. With the ancient double-wooden fan bellows in China are similar, there are some differences. The purpose of this article is to provide new perspectives and materials for better understanding of science, technology and culture exchanges between ancient China and Japan.
