Understanding iterates of closed geodesics

　　In this lecture,I shall give a brief survey on the studies about existence and multiplicity of closed geodesics on compact manifolds,including the new results proved recently by H.Duan and myself on the existences of at least two distinct closed geodesics on every 3 or 4 dimensional compact simply connected Riemannian as well as Finsler manifold.
