The use of Robotic Total Station (RTS) for monitoring survey,slope,structure or dam monitoring is a common practice,because it provides continuous 24-hour remote data collection,analysis and warning alarms toimmediately alert personnel with regard to stability problems.Since this operation requires the instrument to be left outside,namely at the mine site,construction site or dam site,both during the day and night,the instruments are usually sheltered in an observation house with wide window covered with glass material.This paper discusses total station monitoring survey and explores the likely effect of the distance between the total station and its observation house window on distance measurements.The result revealed that the distance between the total station and the observation window has no impact on the distance measurements.However,it is advisable to keep the distance at a practicalminimum,thus not above 0.5 m.
