The speaker will use many real-life examples in industrial pharmaceutical R&D to illustrate the key ADMET questions in drug discovery at strategic, scientific, and operational levels. He will also update the state-of-the-art approaches and laboratory techniques in addressing those questions. From ADMET perspective, pharmaceutical R&D can be divided into two stages: 1) the medicinal chemistry stage where intrinsic drug-like properties can be built into a candidate structure via design or selection, and 2) development stage where a chemical structure is fixed but the physical form (formulation etc) can be modified.Obviously it is desirable to do the best we can to build intrinsic quality early on into a molecule structure. The challenges are 1) to ask the right questions, ie, what are the set of critical parameters we must have, what are the set of parameters that are nice to have but not critical, 2) how to balance ADMET properties with a project perspective, and 3) how to best address those questions with meaningful and cost-effective approaches. The speaker will share his many years of R&D experience in pharmaceutical industry from a project level as well from a technical level.
