This paper deals with the role of public sphere and more specifically the importance of public space in this rapidly changing metropolitan socio-economy.The post-Fordist urban space is characterized by flexibility and networking: After the wave of economic and cultural globalization,the metropolitan space is prevailed by privatopia,minoritization,disneyfication,urban theme park,and splintered labyrinth.Furthermore,the tendency of spatial convergence such as convergence between real world and virtual world,between working space and consumption space is prominent.More and more capitalist private space is overwhelming collective and public communication space.Their raison d’être is so called numeric Benthamism and urban growth machine concepts.In this modern urban space,we need and enhance the importance of supplying urban collective consumption and communicative public sphere for building common goods and creative space.This paper argues that the process “Critics ?? Creativity ?? Aura ?? Identity and Place Membership” is very important in building new public space.Utilizing cultural and social regeneration of urban space,as well as enhancing the liminal space,instead of making unnecessary public space,we can restore public sphere in modern metropolitan areas and can create new cosmopolitan content focusing on hybridity,openness,tolerance,and flexible spatial structure.
