Karnataka stands second with respect to area and production in the country with 13,600 hectares area and production of 1,42,600 tonnes.The district Koppal contributes about 35.62 per cent of the states area (4844 ha) and 40.74 per cent of the production (58102 tonnes), whereas, Bagalkot district contributes about 12.40 per cent (1687 ha) of the area and 11 per cent of the total production of the state (15691 tonnes).
