Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are organofluorine compounds belonging to the persistent organic pollutants (POPs).PFCs are used widely in diverse applications such as fire-fighting foams, cleaners, lubricants and various coatings and do accumulate in the environment, animal and human tissues with a global distribution.PFCs are transported to remote regions such as the Arctic via the atmosphere and ocean currents and they have been found in the marine food chain in Greenland with increasing concentration during 1982-2006.PFCs have been detected in human blood, breast milk, and umbilical cord blood from different countries such as USA, Canada, Brazil, Italy, Poland, Germany, Belgium,Sweden, Japan, China, India, Malaysia and Australia.
