Objective: Artemether,a famous anti-malaria drug,is a lipophilic and poorly water soluble compound. This study investigated the effects of bile salt/lipid mixed micelles in the intestine on the solubility of artemether. Methods: In vitro studies were conducted in the model systems simulating the conditions of the intestine.Effect factors including pH,bile salt micelles and bile salt/lipid mixed micelles on the solubility of artemether were investigated. The bile salts used in this study including taurocholate (TC),taurodeoxycholate (TDC),taurochenodeoxycholate (TCDC),glycocholate (GC),glycodeoxycholate (GDC) and glycochenodeoxycholate (GCDC).Fatty acids and monoglycerides, the main hydrolytic products of the exogenous fat were used to evaluate effects of food on the solubility of artemether.
