Object Angiogenesis following Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH) is of importance for the reparative processes and neurological deficits recovery. The activation of Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) contributes to angiogenesis. Our present study aimed to investigate the effect of Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BYHWD), a traditional Chinese medicine formula, on VEGFR2 activation, through which angiogenesis may be promoted. Methods ICH model was induced in Kunming mice by injection of Collagenase type Ⅶ into the right globus pallidus.4.4g/kg BYHWD was administrated by introgastric infusion. To test the involvement of VEGFR2 activation in BYHWD-promoted angiogenesis, SU5416, an inhibitor to VEGFR2, was administtered.Neurological deficits recovery was evaluated by body weights, modified Neurological Severity Scores (mNSS), corner turn test and foot-fault test.Immunohistochemistry and western blot to determine the pVEGFR2 expression and angiogenesis. Results the Neurological outcomes, the pVEGFR2 expression and the number of BrdU-/ vWF-positive nuclei were all significantly better in BYHWD-treated group and ICH group, as compared with their inhibitor-treated counterparts, respectively. The similar results could also be detected in the comparison between BYHWD-treated group and ICH group. Conclusion Administration of BYHWD can promote neurological outcomes and angiogenesis after1CHin part, by activation of VEGFR2.Supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No.30400581, 30873221,81173175 and 81202625), Project for New Century Excellent Talents (NCET-11-0522).
