The role of knowledge in increasing the added value of product and service is very important in the era of globalization.Knowledge has become the engine for the economy development.It makes the development of knowledge economy become more necessary for Indonesia.Indonesia should do the transition from natural resources based economy to knowledge based economy.This paper first analyzes the position of Indonesia in the process of knowledge economy development.And then it develops the strategy for transitioning Indonesia from the natural resources based economy into knowledge based economy.The result is that Indonesia first should choose some focused industries from its 22 main economy activities.And then Indonesia should coordinate the development of the four pillars of knowledge economy in order to increase these industries’ competitiveness in the global market competition.
