This work presents a novel electrochemical study on Mg-Li-Al-Zn alloys via codeposition of Mg,Li,Al and Zn on a molybdenum electrode from KCl-LiCl-MgCl2-AlCl3-ZnCl2 melts at 943 K.When a more and more negative potential is applied on an electrode, the order of electrode reactions is the next: discharge of Zn(Ⅱ) to Zn-metal,discharge of Al(Ⅲ) to Al-metal,electroreduction of Mg on the surface of Al-Zn with formation of Mg-Al-Zn and after that the discharge of Li+ with the deposition of Mg-Li-Al-Zn alloys.X-ray diffraction and inductively coupled plasma analysis of the deposits indicated different phases Mg-Li-Al-Zn alloys with different lithium contents were obtained via galvanostatic electrolysis.
