The avian sarcoma and leukosis virus (ASLV) family of retroviruses contains six highly related subgroups,A to E and J,thought to have evolved from a common viral ancestor in chicken.The susceptibility or resistance of host cells to the ASLV subgroups is determined by the tva,tvb,tvc and tvj receptor genes,respectively.The prevalence of ASLV in host might have imposed strong selection pressure toward resistance or at least decreased susceptibility to ASLV infection,and the resistant alleles in all four receptor genes have been identified.
