Background: Considering the similarity between fluid vortex and chaotic electric waves in heart, we supposed that the approach used in fluid dynamics could also be used to categorize chaotic electric waves in the heart.Main objective of the present study is to find a new Reynolds number-like parameter that can be used as a biomarker index for chaotic phenomena in cardiac tissue, such as tachycardia and fibrillation.Methods and Results: The index was derived from non-dimensionalization technique which is a generally used in fluid dynamics.The usefulness of the index was verified by a two-dimensional simulation model of electrical wave propagation in cardiac tissue.In silico results showed that electrical waves in cardiac tissue move into an unstable and chaotic region when the index exceeds a threshold value.Conclusions: A new parameter that can characterize reentry wave was discovered and its effectiveness proven using a simulation method.The present study presented in silico evidence showing that the index is a plausible candidate as a biomarker of chaotic reentry waves in heart.
