After a brief review of Stewart's dynamic theory for smectic A(SmA)liquid crystals(with relevant elastic energy density given by De Vita & Stewart),results will be presented regarding the behaviour of SmA subjected to small perturbations in the form of a shear wave incident at the interface between a sample of SmA and an isotropic solid,and a disturbance to a known steady flow pattern in SmA in the presence of an obstacle.
