Phytotherapy is a fast growing field in cosmetic industry.Research focus is now on bioprospecting key active molecules from Traditional Chinese Medicines that could offer functional cosmetic properties.These include wrinkle prevention, whitening, ache prevention, moisturization, breast enhancement, and slimming etc., Novel in-vitro methodologies for cosmetic efficacy testing have been developed to substantiate these functional claims.These tools and methods include gene expression (Northern Blot, real time PCR), skin morphogenesis, cell proliferation model, signal transduction models, microscopy and imaging technique including optical microscopy, EP 1-Fluorescence, confocal laser etc.
