Exercise improves myocardial tolerance to ischenfia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in ageing heart although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.Here, we report that swimming training modulation of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF)-AMPK dependent autophagy relieves ischemic susceptibility in aged heart.Young (4 months) and aged (22 months) mice maintained 10-week free-loading exercise training (swimming 1 h/d,5 days/week).Exercise training significantly improve the agieng myocarium autophagy.As thus, exercise training improved the toler.a.nce of aged hearts to I/R injury as evidenced by reduced infarct size and cardiomyocytes damage, ameliorated the recovery of LV function after ischemia as well as improved cardiomyocyte contractile function under hypoxic condition.Exercise training also restores the energy in response to I/R an d cardiomyocyte mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP).
