Autophagy is dispensable for lipids utilization to maintain the cellular energy hemostasis.Previous works show that autophagy is involved in lipid metabolism, whereas the underlying mechanism is unclear.In Bombyx and Drosophila, the two important organism models, either blocking of autophagosome formation by RNAi of Atg genes and inactivation of Atg proteins or inhibition of the acidification in lysosome cause accumulation of lipid in fat body during the larval-pupal transition, which was opposite to the upregulation of autophagy.Furthermore, the knockdown of acid lipase blocks acidification in fat body, which is essential for the starvation-induced lipid degradation.On the other hand, RNAi-mediated knockdown of the neutral lipase brummer had no effect on the pH in fat body.In future, we will investigate the detailed mechanism of the difference between acid lipase-mediated lipophagy and neutral lipase-mediated lipid degradation.
