Progress on a stacked cable with quasi-isotropic critical current made from coated conductors

  This paper presents a compact cable with quasi-isotropic critical current made from coated conductors by which its square or circular geometrical cross-sections are systematically arranged.Based on electromagnetic characteristics of single coated conductor,the magnetic field distribution in self field and external magnetic field was numerically analyzed and then its critical current was determined in 77 K.The results show that the stacked cable has high current carrying capacity with low anisotropic critical current and has feasibly potential application in large current capacity by cabling the sub-stacked cables.
