  As novel clean energy technologies,alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AAEMFCs) have been indicated to have high power density and reasonable energy density.They have the ability to offer fast electrode kinetics,desirable applicability of non-precious metals as catalysts,low fuel crossover and great fuel diversity [1].Alkaline anion exchange membrane (AAEM),one of the key components of AAEMFCs,serves as hydroxide conductor and fuel/oxidant separator simultaneously [2].The development of high-performance AAEMs has been one of the most important works.In this study,a series of soluble imidazolium hydroxide-functionalized poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s (PEEKK-ImOHs) were synthesized by chloromethylation of PEEKK and following imidazolium-functionalization,and then the corresponding AAEMs were prepared by a solution casting method.1 H NMR analysis confirmed the successful synthesis of chloromethylated PEEKK (CMPEEKK),and the degree of chloromethylation (DC) of PEEKK can be controlled by varying the chloromethylation time.The ion exchange capacity (IEC),water uptake,swelling ratio,and hydroxide conductivity of PEEKK-ImOH membranes were investigated.The IECs of PEEKK-ImOH membranes range from 1.14 to 1.58 mmol g 1with DC of CMPEEKK from 74% to 111%.PEEKK-ImOH membranes possess high thermal stability,appropriate water uptake (≤119%),and moderate swelling ratio (≤44%).Most importantly,the PEEKK-ImOH membrane shows a high hydroxide conductivity of 39.9 mS cm-1 at 30 ℃ which is higher than most of the other reported hydroxide imidazolium-functionalized membranes.All the above properties indicate the PEEKK-ImOH membranes have good prospect and great potential application in AAEMFCs.The authors thank the support of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China (Grant No.21125628) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No.21176044).
