  The Unani system of medicine which is known as Uighur Medicine in China can be traced back to 500 B.C..Originated in Greek founded by Hippocrates (460-577 B.C.) who freed medicine from the Realm of superstitions and gave it a status of medicine.Later on Galen (131-210 A.D.) stabilizes it.Arab physicians like Abu Sehal Masihi,Rabban A1 Tabri,Ali Ibn e Abbas Majusi,Razi,Ibn e Sina and many others developed and enriched by the medical traditions of Egypt,Syria and Persia.Around 30th century the Unani Medicine entered in India and settled here.Now India is world leader in the education and research of Unani Medicine.Because much before independence,the Government of India had given thrust to the Indian Systems of Medicines including Unani.The education,practices and manufacturing of Indian System of Medicine including Unani are governed by the acts of parliament viz Indian medicines Central Council Act and Drugs and Cosmetics Act,Govt.of India.Four central research councils viz Ayurveda-Siddha,Unani,Homoeopathy,Yoga including naturopathy to develop these systems scientifically in consonance with the basic principles of each system,had been established four decades back.These councils in collaboration with reputed medical institutes and Indian Council of Medical research are validating the various fundamental,single and compound formulations claimed to be useful in various diseases by our physicians with all modern toxicity and safety parameters.In view of the strength of Unani medicine in treatment of various diseases and Holistic approach in health care,the Unani System is contributing significantly in the health care both in national health care system and private health sector.
