　　The adult mammalian central nervous system is extremely limited in its ability to regenerate axons following injury.Failure of these axons to regenerate is caused by multiple factors, including both extrinsic inhibitors surrounding injured axons and the reduced intrinsic ability of neurons to regenerate.
