Serum Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein Is Highly Related to Neurological Outcome after Cardiac Arrest

　　Although the neurological outcome of post cardiac arrest is important problem, there is no specific diagnostic tool in clinical settting.Serum glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is remarkable marker, which is highly related to brain damage.In traumatic brain patients, serum GFAP was more specific marker for brain damage than serum neuron specific protein and S-100B protein (J Trauma: accepted).In post cardiac arrest patients, positive serum GFAP had strong specificity for poor neurological outcome (Resuscitation 80:790-794,2009).In our data (n=44), Cut off value of increased serum GFAP 0.10 ng/dl could diagnosis poor neurological outcome with 100% specificity at 12 hours after return of spontaneous circulation.Our next target is combination of other serum marker or neuroelectronic examination to improve sensitivity for poor neurological outcome in early phase.
