Graphene oxide (GO) has shown important potential in drug delivery systems owing to its unique physical and chemical properties. However,GO is soluble in water but aggregated in physiological environments due to nonspecific binding of proteins, which adversely affected its biomedical application.Surface functionalization by polyethylene glycol (PEG) has been previously explored to address these critical issues.Dai et al.developed six-armed PEG functionalized GO nanosheets for anticancer drug delivery with significantly improved stability in physiological solutions including serum [1].However,coating polymer with six-armed PEG-amine or at least four-armed PEG-amine is commercially expensive. For effective therapy,an economic and easy-made coating polymer for GO ftnctionalization is highly preferred for drug delivery.
