The gecko can cling onto vertical and inverted surfaces,and during locomotion,their feet are able to suddenly detach and reattach to a surface.The adhesive forces between the gecko foot and the opposing surface allow for the movement of gecko.Inspired by the unique gecko adhesion phenomenon,our group has been able to mimic the structure of gecko footpads,fabricating a self-peeling reversible dry adhesive with potential in transfer printing.However,this material has small recoverable strain and is too rigid to be used in transfer printing.We report a two component epoxy-amine shape memory polymer system with tunable Tg and excellent shape memory properties.Of significance is its value of strain at break,which reaches a maximum of 212%(previous maximum:~95%).Furthermore,because of the superior level of recoverable strain achieved,the success ratio of this epoxy gecko adhesive is able to reach 100% in transfer printing.We anticipate that such a high strain epoxy system will significantly broaden the opportunities for flexible electronics applications.
