　　Objectives To conduct a meta-analysis and systematic review examining whether extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) could have benefits in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA) of experimental rabbits.Methods We searched Pubmed, Cochrane Library, EmBase, Springer,China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Biological and Medical Database (SinoMed), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Wan Fang Data.Two investigators independently screened randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with negative control or blank control,extracted data and assessed methodological quality.The participants were rabbits and the interventions were extracorporeal shock wave therapy.The outcome measure included Mankin Score, and the level of IL-1β, MMP-13 and TNF-α in cartilage or synovial tissue.We calculated the risk difference (RD) for continuous data by using standardized mean difference (SMD) in a fixed or random effect model with the Cochrane Collaboration's tool.Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager (version 5.3) software.
