The Review of Polysaccharides Sulfate with Anti-complementary Activity

　　Activation of the complement system may contribute to the pathogenesis of many diseases.Hence,an effective inhibitor of complement might be useful to reduce tissue damage.Some polysaccharide sulfate, such as heparin, chondroitin sulfate, fucans, homofructosan sulfate, and homogalacturonan sulfate are known to inhibit complement activation.Recently the search for new drugs has raised increased interest in these polysaccharide sulfates.In the past few years, several structures of polysaccharide sulfate have been solved, and many aspects of their biological activity have been elucidated.From this work emerges a more interesting picture of polysaccharide sulfate than was previously suspected.The anti-complement of polysaccharide sulfate with simple, but varied structures, in conjunction with the development of new anti-complement drugs, demonstrated that the polysaccharide sulfates are not only a simple function of their charge density with sulfated groups but also are a promising candidate of an anti-complement agents.
