压力是物质独立于温度和化学组分的一个重要维度，可以改变物质内部原子间的相互作用，诱发高压相变，形成具有新颖功能性质的高压新相。压力还可以改变物质内部原子的化学价态，降低物质间的化学反应势垒，促使常压下无法发生的反应在高压下发生，最终可以合成常压下无法合成的新型目标功能材料。
