　　Background: Direct measurement of gland uptake function is done by determining radioactive iodine uptake values.Thyroid hormone levels however have supplanted RAI uptake in the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism,but this method only indirectly measures gland uptake function and discordant findings may occur in conditions such as thyroiditis.
