We present a new procedure for rapid synthesis of luminescent Mn-doped ZnSe nanocrystals in aqueous phase by microwave irradiation with controllable temperature.The synthetic procedure is simple, and is conducted at mild reaction conditions, in the absence of the hazardous,expensive, environmentally unfriendly coordinating ligands (as trioctylphosphine (TOP),tributylphosphine (TBP), and trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) and is highly reproducible.The as-prepared Mn-doped ZnSe nanocrystals are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), photolnminescence (PL) spectra, ICP-AES, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and photoluminescence lifetime of Mn2+ 4T1 →6A1 emission.The obtained Mn-doped ZnSe nanocrystals(size about 5nm) have highly crystalline, well-dispersed, good water-soluble, environmentally friendly(no cadmium), strong and pure dopant emission (>95% in intensity) and long lifetime, which could be potential fluorescent labels for biological systems.
