Photosensitized DNA damage has been widely investigated since DNA is the primary intracellular target of anticancer drugs for photodynamic therapy (PDT),a minimally invasive treatment for malignant tumors.1 Many photosensitizers have been confirmed to possess DNA photocleavage activity but suffer the disadvantage of relatively weak absorbance in the phototherapeutic window of 700-900 nm,limiting their further application in PDT.2 Herein,a novel carbazole derivative,BMEPC,was designed and synthesized as DNA photocleaver.
