Objectives The morphology, neurochemical properties and axon projections of the neurons expressing adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) in the mouse nucleus accumbens (NAc) were investigated to understand the physiological functions of A2AR in regulation of sleep-awake cycle in the NAc.Methods A2AR-Cre transgenic mice we generated and injected with an adeno-associated virus (AAV) in mice that express Cre recombinase in A2AR-positive neurons. The AAV vector encodes a humanized Renilla green fluorescent protein (hrGFP) that is transcriptionally silenced by a neo cassette flanked by LoxH/LoxP sites.
