本文介绍了孔子的阶梯式教学，正因为孔子采取阶梯式的教学，所以能人取每个人的所长所短，放其所长之上更鼓舞其往更高层级发展，若有所短，则百般劝诱，勉励其不可中道而废而应更上层楼。因此四方之士乃乐于从学，而孔子也能考量弟子资质之不同，采取不同的施教方式，此即所谓因材而施教，而诸弟子也能在其循循善诱之下，逢德成材，而在各方面有所表现。
笔者认为人皆有智慧，但表现出多向性、层极性、吊诡性等复杂面相，但终究都只是凡俗智慧。同时提出了徳智一如的伟大智慧，阐述了儒家智慧的至上境界。
