Root foraging behavior, architecture and morphology of roots to be high degree of plasticity in response to soil heterogeneity, is known to play an important role in how plants acquire soil resources. In particular, plants can also nonadditively integrate information about both resource and neighbor-based cues in the environment, indicating that root foraging behavior may influence spatial segregation and territoriality, niche differentiation and species coexistence, and the basic understanding of plant behavioral ecology.
