Providing a visual experience of a prehistoric site and communicating aspects of Indias prehistoric past is a relatively new aspect of research and education in South Asia.Considerable efforts have been made in developing strategies for digital visual representation of monuments and sculptures, which constitute a better known aspect of Indian heritage.Little has been done in providing digital reconstructions of prehistoric sites in India, which cover the Pleistocene and Early Holocene and comprise a range of Palaeolithic and Mesolithic cultures. This paper presents our recent efforts at digital reconstruction of the prehistoric site of Attirampakkam, excavated under the direction of the first two authors, and which we recently dated to around 1.5 million years in age.In this paper we provide an overview of our ongoing studies in the reconstruction of the excavated horizons and artefacts at Attirampakkam, which enables research students and others to obtain a general perspective of the nature of sediments, artefacts and features at the site.We situate this study in the broader perspective of our attempts to unite site specific with regional landscapes using satellite remote sensing applications. We discuss potential ideas and methods to carry this forward to educating children and teachers through the medium of our childrens museum.
