Chinese chestnut(Castanea mollissima)is is an economically important temperate tree species valued for its nut.In order to better understand the current population structure of the Chinese chestnut,we analysed 252 samples from 14 locations in China,utilizing eight polymorphic nuclear microsatellite markers.The Geostatistical IDW technique was used to produce maps of genetic diversity parameters(NA,HE,and PAr)and a synthetic map showed that populations from Qinling-Daba Mountains harbored the highest genetic diversity(NA=8.3,HE=0.73).An analysis of molecular variance revealed that most of the molecular variation(89%)was between individuals.The genetic differentiation(FST)was 0.114 among populations.The model-based clustering algorithms implemented either in STRUCTURE software revealed five clusters of all populations,which is no obvious population genetic structure by geographical locations.
