When the band gap of a polycyclic aromatic compound is low enough,the molecule could show singlet biradical character in the ground state.Open-shell polycyclic aromatic compounds will show unusual optical and magnetic properties and ambipolar charge transport with potential applications for NLO optics,organic electronic devices and spintronics.
