The decolorization of C.I.Reactive Black 5 in an aqueous solution by the electrocoagulation (EC) method using iron and aluminum anode has been investigated. In the EC,the effectiveness of the removal of C.I.Reactive Black 5 was proved and the effect of various operational parameters on Color Removal Efficiency(CR)such as initial pH,current density, electrolysis time, water temperature, and concentration of dye, etc.were explored. The experimental results revealed that the color of C.I.Reactive Black 5 in aqueous phase was effectively removed (93%) by using an iron anode and also reduced (50%) by using an aluminum anode. Results showed that dye removal was more efficiently achieved by iron electrodes than those of Al.A UV-vis spectrum analysis diagram was exhibited in this research and it was proposed that the structure of C.I.Reactive Black 5 should be changed by the reduction on the cathode.
