Land cover pattern has very significant impacts on thermodynamic,hydrological,environmental and ecological processes of big-river basins.In view of the fact that,from a global perspective,most of the big rivers are emptying into the sea,therefore,a variety of process at estuary,in coastal zone and even in deep ocean will be significantly affected by land cover pattern in terrestrial area via big-rivers.In this study,we pay close attention to categorical difference,quantitative structure and spatial pattern of land cover in big-river basins from a global perspective.
