Background: Semen is an important vehicle for HIV-1 sexual transmission.Semen harbors various amyloid fibrils, termed semen-derived enhancer of viral infection (SEVI),SEVI could greatly enhance HIV-1 infectivity and it is a potential target for microbicide design.Several reports have showed the effects of semen on SEVI fibril formation. However, little study investigated the role of lactic acid, the main component of the female vaginal secretion, and female vaginal secretion in SEVI fibril formation.
